Joe, what you think about Tuesday… non great but nothing’s impossible .. afternoon E SE wind .. not strong enough yet, but hopefully it will change..low tide about 6.20

commenter

Weather forecast for this weekend looks favorable. Just gonna have to keep an eye on it and see how it shapes up as the week progresses. I have some work to do Friday night, but hopefully it wont take all night.

commenter

Hey Martin,,, ESE might be ok. The tide is not bad if low is at 6:20pm because its still pretty light at 7 to 7:30 and if you get there a few hours before low tide with the wind blowing on-shore you should have enough room to ride… During the week is bad for me with work and moving kids from one location to another but you could have a good time… Of course with that wind direction you would want to hit either the fishing pier or Apollo Beach in the Crest.

commenter

Friday night work has been cancelled. Hopefully the weather report stays good for this weekend.. :)

commenter

duloid, Sounds like a good downwinder direction from North to South beach.

We should try a group downwinder before season’s over.

commenter

I’m planning to be there at 3pm .. plenty time for ridding.. ESE and SE … I ‘ll check the pier first..

commenter

duloid i am possible free tomorrow afternoon. I don’t have a kite buggy yet but I have sail carts. if the wind is good I might be at the beach

commenter

ok, meet you there…

commenter

Hey,,, just checked my weather info site and it says sunny, 60 degrees and breezy for Saturday,,, I didnt see any wind direction but that in itself sounds good so far…..

commenter

Just got a call from duloid

He is at the Pier and wind is SE 10mph ~15mph and sunny.

I should be happy for him but why I feel sad??? Am I a bad person?

commenter

Ugh. I wish I was there too… Work has been a real downer today. Could use some good winds to cheer me up… At least someone is there to enjoy it. :)

commenter

I want to cut his kite strings.

commenter

Now he is LBM. Anyway it sounded like they had a good time… thats cool…. now lets see how this weekend plays out.

commenter

just got home…

so guys I had the best session ever… wind was ESE so I rode from Pier to Coast Guard fence and back with top speed 23mph… all together I did over 20 miles… could do more , but Petra was cold and she was waiting for me in the car.. I felt bad so end up the session..

that’s it for now… have to wash the board and other stuff..

+

have to download some pics and video

will post it tomorrow with some comments..

Justbugn… you missed it… I was waiting for you…

Brian I’m sorry… :)

commenter

Awesome dude. Hopefully we can have a day where we can all do that together… Never quite seems to work out that way, but we can dream. :D

commenter

You lucky bastard! No offense, LBJ.

commenter

Weather forecast for this weekend is definitely looking like there will be wind. Direction remains to be seen, but I’m definitely seeing some wind on the radar. WestNorthWest winds currently predicted from one site, and another says directly west winds. Hard to call which location will be the best to go to, but the wind speeds are upwards of 18mph. Lets hope that holds through. Would sure be nice to set some new speed records. :D

commenter

Hey Guys-
I’m Ankur from Laurel-MD. I got into kiteboarding last year and then landboarding this winter. I’ve only gone to the local spots for landboarding so far, but I’m really interested in trying out Wildwood. Is the location only good for buggying or can a mountain board be used as well? I’ve a 5 and a 7m foil kites and a 11 and 14m inflatable kites. What kind of kites do you guys use? I was thinking of driving down on sat- what’s the range around the low tide time that the area is kite-able?

Thanks a lot for any pointers.

Ankur

commenter

I should be there on Saturday or Sunday, will make up my plans as the week progresses………

commenter

Ankur-
The beach is fully ridable with a mountainboard. We have a quite a few guys that come down and do that. During a good low tide, there is PLENTY of beach for you to ride on. If you can make the trip, I highly recommend it. It will be well worth your time.

As for kites, bring whatever you are comfortable riding. We have had people with all different kinds. Personally, I fly foils (Flysurfer and HQ), but other people fly Ozone foils, PL, and other LEIs.

If we get big enough group together, it might be worth looking into doing a group lodging thing Friday night, if that is doable for you.

Looking forward to seeing you on the beach, my friend. :)

commenter

hello Ankur,

I dont know if you have ever been to the Wildwoods but I will give you a very brief description. The Barrier Island is about 5 miles long consisting of three different jurisdctions. You have North Wildwood in the on the North end of the island, Wildwood is in the center and Wildwood Crest in the Southern end. Depending on wind direction we either go to North Wildwood or Wildwood Crest. The best wind diretion for our area is South East right off the ocean, then we go to Wildwood Crest, North East is next best and then we go to North Wildwood. North West is again Wildwood Crest and South West is North Wildwood. Keep an eye on the website for last minutes details as far as where and what time we are going to meet. We use everything,,, landboards, kite buggys, blokarts (landsailers) Hope you can make it,,, the more the merrier.
Joe.

commenter

Thanks a lot guys! I’d totally be up for driving down on friday if there are enough people interested in a group accomodation arrangement. The forecast right now says W 22mph for sat. Looking forward to meeting you all! :-)

commenter

Brian,,,,,what does “Dewey” mean?

commenter

Means he will be out at Dewey Beach on the water… Trying to drown himself again…

commenter

Brian you can just as easily drown yourself here in Wildwood……….you are coming here.

commenter

You sound like Jennie now.

commenter

Hey,,,I am not sure I like the way that sounds……..

So lets get this straight,,,,I am saying you can drown yourself,,,Jennie wouldn’t say that,,,but it would only be fair if you were to do it here so we can watch…….ha ha…..no we really wouldn’t want that….but anyway if the wind direction changes a bit this could be a good weekend.

commenter

even if the wind doesn’t change direction, we will still have fun.

commenter

Of course we will… i will still be there no matter what…..

commenter

ankur6ue

Welcome! You’re local too, were located in Southern Southern MD (Ridge)

This weekend looks good for a nice trip to WW. We are planning it but unsure if we will be there Friday night or early Saturday morning. Brian, I have your tow bar for you!

Ran across this video for fun times in low wind conditions.

commenter

I really want to, but lodging is always an issue for me. If enough of us get together and go in on a room, it will be easy to work out. Paying for a room by myself, not gonna work for me. We’ll see what happens. :)

commenter

Saturday West wind, gusting up to 40mph? Scary.

commenter

Where did you see that prediction Brian?

commenter

Okay, that is kinda scary… And sunday looks like less than 10mph of wind, according to NOAA. Hopefully this prediction changes over the course of the day…

commenter

40mph is not a problem for the blokarts,,, that just means more speed………

commenter

Maybe its my weekend to give the blokart a shot…?

commenter

Hey,,,just checked my accu-weather site for wildwood. It is saying West North West winds which would be good for fishing pier. Average temps around 50 degrees sunny and average winds around 25 mph. So get your small kites,,,,This could be an excellent downwinder Brian…or it could be an excellent North and South run day.. I will have 4 meter blokart kicking butt I am sure and Jesse will have his 3 meter going….Hey jesse let me know if you want me to bring down the kite wings.

commenter

Of course we will allow complimentary blokart trials.

commenter

Sounds like a fun day to break speed records. :)

commenter

Hey Guys- gusting to 40 seems like it might be a little too much for someone like me who’s relatively new to the sport. The smallest kite I have is a HQ 5m Beamer- it’s a fixed bridle foil though- no depower. It pulls hard enough to landboard in anything over 15-16mph, so it might be too powerful in winds twice as strong. Tomorrow it’s going to be 15-16mph SSE. That would be perfect! Wish sat was the same way! :-)

Todd- let me know if you are going, if the forecast changes a little and I decide to go, I’d love to carpool.

commenter

Hey LBJ, don’t bother with the wings, it looks like there will be enough wind on the beach to keep us busy….

I’ll be driving down Saturday morning, what time will you guys be on the Beach?

Brian, no excuses, WW is where the fun’s at this week end.

commenter

Ankur,
Bud, you need to come anyways. We’ll find something small for you to fly. :)

commenter

who has the correct tide chart? My chart is saying low tide on Saturday is about 9am so I would think as close to 8am as posible to be there, you still have a good 3 hrs after low tide to ride so.. And Sunday looks about 11am so get there by 9 on that day or 10.. what do you guys think?

commenter

I rely on you for the darn tides. The few times *I* looked it up, I was wrong.

commenter

I always use the link on the right panel in this page (it’s under weather link). It shows 10am Sat and 11am Sun.

commenter

So lets go with that… so whoever is coming sat should be there by 9am and then 10am sunday or earlier if you want……….

commenter

Dont you think 9am is a little late? Sun is up at 6, and there will be plenty of beach by that time. Might as well be there then. Ride til there is no beach, and repeat the next day…
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

commenter

Now I get why you guys are talking about coming in on Friday night, 3 hours for and after low tide, that’s what’s ridable, after or before that you have to milk it out, I’ll come as early as I can, but Sunday would be better if low tide is 11. I’ll keep an eye on winds and will make a decision.

commenter

Yeah, if I’m riding Saturday, I’m heading somewhere Friday night. Whether I stay in Delware that night, or head all the way to Wildwood is still for debate. Not sure exactly what the plan is. It all depends on how many of us are heading out that soon, and where we are staying… :D

commenter

Dewey !

commenter

Wind prediction from NOAA is now saying steady 25mph winds straight out of the west on Saturday… This is getting even better.. :D

commenter

btw- the forecast for sunday is now SW 12mph..If it picks up a bit more, I’d prefer going on sunday as opposed to running the risk of becoming a story on fox news by trying my luck on sat! :-)

commenter

Thing is, southwest is not the greatest direction. It is rideable, but only on the north side, which is much smaller than the south side. I still want to ride Saturday. I will figure out lodging tonight, I hope.

commenter

South West is good for North Beach. Just let me know what time you guys are going to be there and I will be there also.

P.S. no one is allowed to say Dewey anymore.

commenter

Well, if we can get our lodging taken care of (something I am working on), Todd and I will be there both days. :D

commenter

Dewey, Dewey, Dewey!!!

I’ll be there Saturday morning around 8 am (best conditions for good runs will be between 7 am and 1 pm).

@snobdr if you need a ride, let me know… Will be leaving our area around 5.30 am

LBJ is this going to be north beach or Pier?

Any one can bring an extra harness?? I still haven’t tried my 5 meter depower, tomorrow should be epic for the Montana 5m, nothing crazy but still good, it just said up to 25mph west going south west.

commenter

@ LBJ: 59 buddy, you did it again ;)

commenter

I’ll be bringing my harness, but doubt i’ll be using it Saturday. You can give it a shot if you want. I am thinking my 8m Outlaw will be a bit much in those conditions… :)

My guess is pier will be the spot to be…

commenter

I’m in for Sunday…

commenter

I’m in for sunday as well. Hopefully the winds will pick up just a little bit :-)

commenter

I might stay over and do Sunday too, all depends on Saturday, I’ll be at the pier around 7.30 am

commenter

Should I be in for Sunday???

commenter

Hey anku6ue, I saw your post on EastKB. I must know you. It’s me, Foil Brian!

commenter

Sunday West wind 11 – 15 mph..

where we gonna meet??

commenter

With the winds swinging south as the day progresses, North beach might be better on Sunday…

commenter

I am so excited about this weekend that I can’t focus on work!!!

commenter

T-minus 4 hours 12 minutes and 46 seconds untill we leave……..

commenter

T-minus 4 hours 9 minutes and 33 seconds untill we leave??????..

Made it to 60!

commenter

Dont you mean 70?

commenter

Hey I was just talking to brian,, we were trying to figure out what the best location would be for the wind direction. Saturday is supposed to be (according to Accu-weather) West wind just about all day average 25mph with gusts over 45mph. So just considering the wind direction brian thinks North Beach would be the best location,,,now considering the wind speed, he thinks we are crazy. I would have to aggree that anything 2 meters or bigger would be insane, so if you have 1meter or 1.5meter that may be managable but we can see what its like when we are there…. now the blokarts I think could handle the speed…less of a chance of getting hurt. Now for Sunday the wind direction starts out at West North West and turns to West in the afternoon again thinking North Beach would be better however we could get in a good downwinder ride from Wildwood Crest to North Wildwood early and then stay at North Beach. Wind speeds I am seeing so far for Sunday are about 12 mph which is not bad. Saturday is supposed to be sunny and warm so we could still have a good time just playing it safe though……. So what do you guys think,, what time and where do you want to meet tomorrow, Saturday?

commenter

So, who’s staying at Wildwood Saturday night?

I am thinking about super early morning session on Sunday, possible downwinder from South to North.

duloid & snobdr, want to try dualathlon? Landboarding in the morning and kiteboarding afternoon?

commenter

I’m up for staying sat night. Brian, where are you going to be driving from? Anyone driving up from around Laurel-MD?

Can I get the contact info of any of the locals? I’ve never been to this location before. If I’m not able to stay sat night, I’ll plan on leaving super early on sun and get there by 8ish.

My phone is eight-one-four-57-one-three-7-1-eight.

Thanks guys! Can’t wait! :-)

commenter

I thought you were staying with ragden at Wildwood tonight and tomorrow night…

I am leaving super early on Sunday as well. Once I get there (around 8am), I am going to call LBJ and whoever’s coming to give wind report. If wind is good, we will be meeting at South fence and prepare for downwinder to North beach.

So, let me know whom I need to contact Sunday morning. So far, I’ve got

Todd & ragden, ankur6ue, LBJ

Who else?

commenter

I was hoping the gusts had backed off for Saturday, if not, its going to be pretty crazy. I am still working on lodging for tonight in Wildwood, but things are looking good. I can’t make any promises though.

Early morning downwinder Sunday sounds epic. I’m totally game for that. Arrangement of vehicles will be key. :)

commenter

Yes It should have been 70… the six was hanging half off the page making it look like a 5 :p

Downwinder would be great! LBJ, can you drive your truck the lenght of the beach? Maybe take turns driving while everyone hangs onto a rope to get towed back down to do it again? Just a suggestion.

I will also be bringing 3 Prism Stylus – P2 and 3 Prism Stylus – P3′s if someone needs a small kite (2-line) P-3′s can be 4-line.

commenter

If downwinder ever happens, it will be like this.

1. We meet at the South fence
2. Set up our gear
3. While one person watching our gear, rest of us drive to North beach.
4. Leave our vehicles and drive just one car back to South fence

I plan to arrive at South fence before 8 am and let you guys know (via text) if downwinder is feasible. If not, we will just meet at North beach.

commenter

you guys are killing me.
i wish i could come.
heres a story.
when jason was buggying. we went to ocean city MD. the wind was going down the beach all week. he said the hell with this. i`m doing a down wind run. when he got to the end of the beach. get this.
he called a taxi!!!!!

commenter

I think brians idea sounds the best… and at end of day I will give whoever left their vehicle at south fence a ride back to get thier vehicle…. that way we can load whoever that may be,s equipment in my truck and transport them and thier stuff back there.

commenter

Like my english?

commenter

What Brian and Joe describe is pretty much what I had mind for a downdwind run. Or, how I thought we would manage it. Though, going back to get the vehicles sooner in the day is always an option too, if you can find someone to drive you down there to get it… :)

commenter

What time I have to be there for downwinder?

no kiteboarding for me , have to pick up the bikes on the way back… from WW

commenter

8:30am. Let me know if I need to put you in “text” list.

commenter

So whats the deal for tomorrow, Saturday, Jesse,, what time are you going to get down here and are we meeting at North Beach?

commenter

Do we want to ride north or south beach saturday? I would think that with the strength of the wind that south beach would be better…

commenter

I should be in WW around 7.30 if things go right, I’ll be driving to North and go from there.

LBJ catch me on 610 999 1894 and Brian put me on your txt list

commenter

Looks like we can all hang at the pier and do from the fence to the wall from 9 am to 1 pm if we are lucky. Winds over the 20 mph coming from West, even if it would turn to south west, with 20mph + we don’t have to worry too much….

Joe, I’ll drive up to North, have a look and make my way down to the pier, I’ll be driving ocean or what ever the closest one is. Should be in around 7.30 – 8

commenter

Todd and I will hopefully be down by the pier by 0700. Maybe earlier. :)

commenter

so How was it??

commenter

we had a BLAST! Winds were definitely a little bit out of control, but we still had a great time. Small kites were the call. I was flying a 1.8 and hitting about 32mph. Joe hit 39 in the blokart, and Todd was right ahead of me at 32.2.

Here is the GPS track for today.

commenter

Wind was strong….kites did ok,,, Mike, Todd and Cory were riding with small kites, working hard to go South but North was good. Jesse and I did a South Fence to 2nd ave run on the blokarts,,,, hitting 39.9 mph I would say it was 40mph. It was really good.. then at 2nd ave, Jesse noticed his front wheel was all but off….. destroyed,,,, I had to tow him all the back,,,, his front wheel up on my rear axle. but we made it… doing an average speed of 10 mph back. tomorrow should be better more controllable wind.

commenter

duloid, I am leaving my place at 6 am. Downwinder is depending on wind condition tomorrow but if you are interested, give me a call early morning and plan to meet us at 8:30 somewhere Wildwood.

PS. Today water session was awesome! One of those days, “I wish I had 4M depower kite…”

commenter

Last wind prediction I saw for Sunday looked like NW winds. We might want to just stay down by the pier. Depends on what we find in the morning.

commenter

Ok, according to forecast, wind will “eventually” turn to South. I think it’s best to stick with down winder plan and hang out at South fence for a while and eventually move to North beach and wrap up there.

Will see. Stay tuned. I’ve got “text” list!

commenter

looks like you had great time… I’m still at work.hopefully will get home at midnight …. will try to do my best tomorrow morning…
Brian text me please what is going on.. will try to get there until 9….

commenter

I’ll be leaving around 6am and hope to make it by 9-930ish. Where are you guys going to be?

commenter

Today was… amazing. Offshore winds, but still a lot of fun. For those that didnt make it, you really missed out on a wonderful day. Here is the link for the tracks made on google maps.

GPS track
New land speed record for me. 41.5mph
See ya next time. :)

commenter

Hey Guys-
It was great meeting you all and I had a great time at Wildwood. Thanks LBJ for letting me use the 3m and Brian for all your help. I’m looking forward to seeing all the pictures and videos! :-)

The only downside- DELAWARE TOLL SUCKS! I spent more on toll than on gas. I wish there was a place like wildwood closer to home!

Duloid- how do I find u on facebook?

look forward to see you guys again soon!
