It’s time of the year, Folks!
What: Wildwood Buggy Bash 2008
Where: Wildwood Beach, NJ
When: September 27, 2008
Time: 8 am ~ 6 pm
We are currently communicating with HQ-USA for some demo kites, including Montana IV, Crossfire II and possibly Neo!!! We will also have many other kites you can try. No buggies? No problem! You can use my buggies and landboard for sure.
Lunch will be provided. Nothing fancy, some hotdogs and burgers. Maybe some pizza.
We will announce our gathering place as we get closer to the event day. So, stay tuned!!!
Come on out and have fun with us. For those of you who can’t make it, please pray for wind.
Special thanks to Don @ PowerKiteplace.com, NJ Buggy Club’s official shop, for sponsoring this event.
PS. Seats are limited. Bring your camping chair. And sunblock.
Edit 1:We’ve determined our gathering location and it’s E 2nd Ave and John F Kennedy Beach Dr @ North Wildwood.
You can park on the side of the street and don’t have to put coins in the meter. It’s free during off season.
Edit 2:Good news! Our sponsor shop, PowerKiteplace.com will bring out HQ Neo and Montana IV to the event.
Also, some folks will stay until Sunday so we are making this two day event.

Ho Yeah!!!, Brian THANK YOU!!!
I am all excited, at work they think I am crazy now, I stood up and said YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!…
your P.S is scary though, each buggy is a beach chair!!, but yes, you are right if anybody rides someone’s else buggy, the owner will need something to sit on/in.
Non Alcoholic beverages are provided, I believe alcoholic beverages aren’t allowed on the WW beach any way, LBJ please confirm if I am right or wrong.
I may have a few friends come down and see what this is all about, good thing I’ll have the blokart as well if there is anybody that wants to try the thing, feel free (great for non kiters who still want to move by wind power)
Brian, NJ Club members you rock!! (I was about to say you blow, but that doesn’t work out ;))
August 28th, 2008 at 6:21 pm
It doesn’t matter. It will be so fun I bet everybody will forget to eat or drink anyway
I didn’t mean to confuse anybody so I took out that part.
August 28th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
I think some of my family is coming along with me this time, too.
And a reminder to any sun-sensitive folks who might forget…
BRING SUNBLOCK.
I forgot to use it at last year’s WWBB, and I looked like a lobster for more than a week afterwards.
Am I the only one who stares at the countdown clock….?
August 29th, 2008 at 6:15 am
Hey Luke, thanks for the Sunblock tip.
You are not the only one who stares at the clock, I looked at it all yesterday, and that thing would stay on 29 days left, needless to say what I first did when I woke up today (yes, run down to see if the clock was on 28!! - and it is!!!!).
August 29th, 2008 at 7:19 am
hey guys
ok i`ll be there. WOOHOO!!!!!
brian. i`ll take a large shirt.
i`m even thinking of making it a 3 day weekend for me. one day of buggying is only a tease for me. i even called some of the guys out on long island who buggy. some of them should be coming down too. its looking like its going to be a great event. now i have to find and go over my gear. i haven`t seen my buggy in months. stored away somewhere. i had to move my buggy stuff when i put my 30 chevy in my garage.
but i`ll be ready.
whats a good hotel to stay at close by the beach where we meet up?
August 29th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Hey Glenn!!, I knew you couldn’t resist.
Don always crashes at the Apollo motel, I believe that now they have $55/night (Don or a phone call can confirm this)they are right on the beach a bit south from where we are, but within buggy distance
I’ll be doing a two day week end.
August 29th, 2008 at 9:09 am
We are also trying to find out if we can get a group rate at the Apollo motel, so guys wait before booking any thing, we will keep you posted about this soon…
August 29th, 2008 at 9:13 am
hey jesse
sounds good. keep us in the loop.
now i`m getting stoked about it.
see the gang in 28 days.
i love the clock too.
forgot to add. nice site too.
August 29th, 2008 at 10:01 am
will do!
thanks!, now that we have been running this site since March, I have a few nice ideas that I need to work out to make our site a better site, but overall we had lots of fun, and it is a god way to stay in touch with the entire gang!!.
Don provided us with webspace from his own hosting package, Thanks again Don!!
August 29th, 2008 at 11:41 am
Jesse, let me know if you need some help with Wordpress.
And keep me posted on the motel deal!
August 29th, 2008 at 4:06 pm
Howdy folks. I am planning on being there.
Looking forward to meeting and flying with you.
Cheers,
joe dillon
August 29th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Hey Barnes (Be), I’ll ned help at some time but we can talk about it at the bash, did you update any of your WPs to the latest version??
August 29th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Yeah, updating is as simple as uploading the new root files, and the new wp-admin and wp-includes folders from the new version, and navigating to /wp-admin/update.php.
Read more about this
(and worth the update, it just keeps getting better and better.
August 29th, 2008 at 6:18 pm
Hey Jesse,
You are right,, alcoholic beverages are not allowed on the beach. I will give the cops the heads up on us being down there,, not that they need to know but it always helps to let them know,,, last time during the midnight run they stopped by and had a drink with us… soda of course……..it will be great…..
August 29th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Thanks for the confirm, we call Joe LBJ (lucky bastard Joe) but I believe that we are the LBJ (Lucky Buggiers Bastards) with such a wealth of info.
Also Joe, last time was perfect with the midnight run, they came by also on the streets where we parked, they checked us, knew about us and left us doing our thing, also the two times at night on the beach we hang out with them, had a drink and a brief chat, no I agree, always good to let them know we are up to no harm and just there for healthy, environment friendly fun!!
@ Barnes, thanks, I’ll have more questions about it, I did a few new 2.6.1 installs and yes, it keeps getting better!!
September 1st, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Hey, I was on the beach today. went down around 5pm… The wind was SE but not very fast. Around 6pm the people were gone enough for me to ride a little. But I was not moving that fast with my 5meter beamer. Talked to one of the lifeguards…. they are finished on the weekend of the 19th,,, so they wont even be around on our weekend.
September 1st, 2008 at 8:38 pm
Thanks for the update, Joe.
Ye, you need a bigger kite now, Maybe a depower kite
Let me know when you are ready. We will make sure you get a right one for you.
September 3rd, 2008 at 3:06 pm
did anybody find out about the group rate for the apollo yet??
i want to book my room by next week.
BTW. i found some of my buggy stuff in my shed covered with cob weds. that should tell me i`m not buggying enough. LOL.
September 3rd, 2008 at 3:40 pm
No group rate this year, hopefully next year. Still $55 is a great deal, I believe.
September 4th, 2008 at 6:52 am
thanks brian.
i`ll be booking my room next week,
September 4th, 2008 at 10:18 am
Yep Brian is right, no better rate than the $55 this year.
I am thinking about making it a 3 day week-end as well, I’ll probably share the room with Don. Will keep yopu posted on the 2 or 3 day thing…
22 more days to go!!!!
September 5th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
Event location updated
September 8th, 2008 at 3:29 pm
hey brian
is the apollo hotel walking dis. from the buggy site? or do we have to drive everyday from the hotel to the buggy site?
the reason i`m asking is. i would like to build my buggy and leave it together for the weekend. not have to take it apart everyday to put back in my trunk. i will be bringing a lock and chain so we can lock our buggies at the hotel for the night.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:21 pm
Hey, Glenn.
I looked up Apollo motel location but it’s far away from our event location. Sorry
September 8th, 2008 at 5:30 pm
Hey Glen…. The apollo is not within walking distance by any means…. Well it would take about an hour on the beach…but if you want,,,I have a pick-up truck,,,I could relay whoever wants to have their buggies assembled to the site,, its not a problem,,, I may be even able to get a trailer to hook up to my truck and load several buggies on there and still have mine in the bed of the truck…..let me know. also if the wind is blowing SW you can ride all the way down there……
September 8th, 2008 at 5:34 pm
Just another update….I was at the North Wildwood site this morning,, low tide was around 9am…I was there by around 9am… The weather report was not looking good as far as wind was they were reporting 6 to 8 mph South. When I got there it was NE which is perfect for the 2nd street site and I took out my 5meter Beamer and was going a steady 20 mph with a large clear open hard packed sand area. It was good…..even rolled the kart once….I have to stop doing that>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
September 8th, 2008 at 11:49 pm
You are a LB.
It is nice to have you there to keep us updated on conditions.
I will be hanging out at the Apollo from Monday Sept. 15th to the 19th.
Would be great to get together if we can.
I’m ready to help you keep an eye on conditions and have some serious buggy fun.
Pleasant Breezes,
Don
September 9th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Hey Don,
Thats sounds good to me…I will track you down,,,,I will be working some of those days,,, but can get done by around 3pm or take off if the day looks really good……let me know…..
September 9th, 2008 at 9:03 am
hey lbj
thats sounds good to me.
i plan to bring one pl buggy. i own 4.
but i`m bringing both my big foots tires and standard tires for the same buggy. if i have to run on the soft stuff. big foots it is. if the wind is right and we can run the lenght the beach. standard tires. i will be bringing spare tubes and a patch kit. i had a few flats riding the beach in wildwood. one flat was a crab shell and one was a sharp sea shell. i also will be bringing an air pump.
September 9th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Hopefully the condition will be perfect to ride from Apollo to the spot, it is a nice ride!..
I am asking for a day off on Friday, hopefully I’ll get it, so I can make it a three day as well.
Glen are you bringing your Blokart as well?? I will bring mine any way..,
It is funny, I have never had a flat on the beach and never thought it could happen, but it looks like it happens more than I would think, Thanks for the reminder!!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:13 am
hey jesse
if i have room in my trunk i`ll bring my kart.
i have no luck with flats. it seens everytime i go to wildwood i get a flat. the one time i had a flat i was a long way away from base camp. i rode my buggy back with the flat. that caused the tube to rip apart. but it was funny riding like that.

September 9th, 2008 at 7:24 pm
Edit 2 is added to the original post.
September 10th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Hey Brian (and Jennie), the shirts are awesome, thanks for doing this, using the quotes (although I don’t have one from myself) was a very good idea!!
I am working on making this a 3 day event for myself!!!
September 10th, 2008 at 10:59 am
Thanks, guys. I love back side of it but frankly speaking front font came out smaller and lighter than I expected.
Shop only provides small piece of sample color for shirts and fonts so it’s hard to guess how the whole thing would come out.
Hey, what counts is we are going to have fun, right? Can’t wait to meet you all.
September 10th, 2008 at 11:03 am
I just realized that buggymangp called me “brain” lol
September 10th, 2008 at 11:15 am
i buggy alot better than i spell. LOL
September 10th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
Awesome job on the shirts, Brain
Looking forward to seeing everyone in 16 days!
I can’t wait.
Already bought the sunblock.
September 12th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Hey buggyman, if you speel lik yuo bugy yuo’l maike en acsidant at the fitsr turne
September 12th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
hey jesse
ask me about the time i got into a head on crash with nother bugger at about 25mph. its was not pretty. my body was bent and broken and so was my buggy. LOL
September 13th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Wow!!doesn’t sound to pretty!, I am sure when you saw the other buggier coming closer and closer you where thinking “f%@&*% here we go“
September 15th, 2008 at 11:20 am
hey jesse
what happened was we were buggying on this dirt road along side of a park. we passed each other a dozen time during the day, no problem. one time just as we were going to pass each other. a wind gust came up and the other guy slide sideways right into me. i wasn`t looking at him. i was looking at our kites. making sure we didn`t get tangled up. the next thing i know i`m on the ground with bent and broken buggies. i broke my thumb,3 ribs. my buggy had a bent front fork, foot pegs, bent rear axle, cracked front wheel. from what the other guy told me. his front wheel came up over my front fork and hit me square in the chest. my worst crash yet.
September 22nd, 2008 at 7:55 am
Folks, Rain in the weekend forecast. If you have an ability to change weather, it’s time to step forward. Don’t be shy.
September 22nd, 2008 at 9:55 am
I just ordered some sun, they said they’ll do their best but can’t promise anything….
The wind will be strong though, so we’ll see, I am not canceling anything unless it really rains all day!!
@ Glenn, don’t worry about crashing into somebody at WWB, it is wide enough to accommodate every body ;), I never heard someone having such a big accident while buggying!, sounds like you were lucky after all (despite the broken bones and buggy) but reading your story, it could have been much worse!!,
Lets all keep safety in mind when buggying!
September 22nd, 2008 at 11:03 am
Hello everybody,
I’m planning to attend the event this Saturday, but I’m new to power kiting… actually, I have no practical experience with power kites, only internet study and I can say I learned the theory pretty well. I’m thinking of buying a power kite that I can have fun with in light wind (7-11 mph)… in the area where I live we rarely have more than that. Will I be able to get some advise from you or even try a kite before I decide what to buy? Thank you.
September 22nd, 2008 at 11:50 am
Hi Tibi!
We are looking forward seeing you in WWB. We will have a few demo kites out, so yes I am sure you will be able to try before you buy
Check out http://powerkiteplace.com if you haven’t done so, Don is the owner of the site (also kiteplace.com) and he will be in WW as well, if you want to contact him for advice, send him an email or give him a call, all his contact info is at http://kiteplace.com/kiteplace_contact_us.htm
BTW, how did you find this site, or do you know someone in the club??
September 22nd, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Welcome tibi! You are in the right place.
Come on out and ask as many questions as you can. We all have been where you are and you will get more than enough helps and suggestions you probably need.
Hope to see you soon. Please pray for wind and sunshine…
September 22nd, 2008 at 1:18 pm
Thanks for the welcome!
I don’t know anybody from the club, but as I was mentioning, I read a lot off of the internet, so…I came accross the http://www.powerkiteforum.com where I found plenty of info on the subject. Somebody was mentioning about Saturday’s event and referenced this website… so here I am. I already checked out Don’s website and it looks good. Prices are pretty much the same as on other sites, but I would prefer to buy from him. There are some inacuracies related to the discounts offered on his website. I was looking at the Beamer III kites and on each one of them there is a “less 10%” discount listed, but the value next to the 10% is actually showing an amount in $ of only 5%. I’m not complaining about that… just observant. Based on what people are writing, I understand he’s doing a lot for the powerkiting comunity.
September 22nd, 2008 at 1:58 pm
Brian, I was talking with Luke and also Don earlier, I said to them rain or shine, the beach is mine!!, we have kick ass winds but also 40% chance of rain, but I see it the other way, 60% chance of perfect weather!!!, I will be at WWB Friday probably around 10 or 11 am if it rains, I come up with a solution, but if it’s somewhat dry and wind blows, I’ll be riding!!
September 22nd, 2008 at 2:02 pm
To me, it’s rain or shine but I would like to at least inform my friend with what to expect.
60% chance of no rain??? I like the way you look at it
September 22nd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Will you be there on Friday as well, or will you come in Saturday??
Don will be there Friday night, he will have to wait for the UPS guy with the kites, he doesn’t come before 1 pm at Don’s…… But we got kites and more….
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Too soon to make any decisions about the weather…I have confidence that it will be good.
My plan is to come down on Saturday morning and stay until Monday night, provided the conditions aren’t complete crap.
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:03 am
We need more good weather prayers but as I said before, Rain or shine the beach will be mine, or as Don would say: The beach is within reach!
September 24th, 2008 at 7:35 am
Looks like it’s going to rain but don’t know how much. Don @ powerkiteplace.com will bring out a pop-up tent to cover in case of rain but again, we just don’t know whether it’s going to be all day rain or occasional shower…
September 24th, 2008 at 8:22 am
I personally will be there no matter what but would like to ask you guys….
Should we officially reschedule our event? or since some of us are going to be there anyway, let others make their own decision?
What do you guys think?
September 24th, 2008 at 9:36 am
I will be there no matter what, I will be there from Friday morning (around 9 or 10 am) until Sunday.
I don’t think we should reschedule the event, the weather is really changing all the time, I have faith that no matter what we’ll have a good week end. on the other end we could do a second fall event instead of rescheduling….
September 24th, 2008 at 9:39 am
New weather.com snapshot:
it is clearing up for us!!
September 24th, 2008 at 12:52 pm
Forecast keeps changing (ye, looking at the weather forecast is all I do this week). Now ikitesurf shows SE wind on Saturday. Hope it stays that way.
September 24th, 2008 at 1:43 pm
hey guys
i`m sorry to say. but if it looks like rain. i`ll be staying home. if it does rain. i got alot of inside work i can take care of around the house. plus i need to get my car(1930 chevy) ready for a car show i`ll be going to in a few weeks.
it looks like i won`t be going to be DBBB this year too. the island is trashed(IKE) and i don`t think it will cleaned up in time. other thing is there is no hotel rooms to be had there. what with all the clean up people and home owners living in hotels on the island that FEMA is paying for.
September 24th, 2008 at 3:46 pm
BuggyMan!,
You are a smart guy :), however a few of us are crazy and will be there no matter what (so far, Brian, Don and myself) I will have my laptop with me so feel free to shoot us a message through the site for most accurate up to date info on the conditions, or even call us (610 999 1894 - you may have to leave a message though)….
Brian was suggesting to reschedule the event, I suggested to organize another one later this year, specially now that not much will happen at DBBB, we could accommodate our fellow buggyiers from down there.
Stay tuned… keep praying
September 25th, 2008 at 8:46 am
Updated other forum with this info:
“ok, weather forecast says “50% chance of light rain” for this Saturday.
Some of us will be there rain or shine so, if you decide to come by, that would be great but if not, keep an eye on this event section as we are planning another gathering before winter.”
September 25th, 2008 at 8:49 am
Just heard from Don that he was there with LBJ, and the wind kicked ass!!,
Thanks for the weather update Brian!!
September 26th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Strange. They said it would rain today but it’s just cloudy so far. Does that mean we are not going to have rain tomorrow either? (hope so)
I am packing right now and will be @ Wildwood, NJ tomorrow as planned. I am leaving 6 am tomorrow. See you there. - Brian
September 26th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
Don and I are here in WW and had a nice ride, nothing extreme.
See you tomorrow.
