Saturday October 18th (good forecast)

October 16th 2008 | Posted by LBJ

Just throwing it out there: The weather report for this Saturday Oct 18th,,,, NNE Winds averaging around 19mph which could mean 25 or alittle better for the North Beach area of North Wildwood… 2nd street … Low tide for Saturday is 5pm which is also good…. last time Don and I had this type of weather conditions we were averaging 30 to 35mph runs using a 1.5meter kite…. Any thoughts?

I will be at Lewes, DE, kiteboarding. Hope to get Don’s Neo out this time. So far, wind wasn’t strong enough for Neo 11M.

LBJ, I might get my GPS out to water. Want to race to see who was faster? :)

commenter

I should be ale to make it 0n Saturday, I will discuss this and confirm..

commenter

I dont think i have a kite small enuff, Smallest is the 12 rebel, well aside from a 3m airush trainer. Brian id join ya on the water but darn its cold. I may just hang local and go check out warminster. Have to wait and see where everyone is headed.

commenter

snobdr, I’ll have to small beamers with me, a 2.5 and 3 Also check with Don if he has any small demo kites if you still want to come to WWB. Also this time I’ll have my blkart, could be lots of fun with that kind of wind…. Two wheels!!!

Who else will be there?? I sent an email to Luke, but haven’t heard back.. Don will be there, just talked to him on the phone, I might have a buddy from work as well….

As Don would say: The Beach is within reach!!!

commenter

I am thinking I may make the long long trak to the beach that day……. sorry cant resist. Anyway,, I will be there..with the winds predicted I would think we will end up using anywhere from a 3meter down to a 1.5 meter if it really picks up…. but right now it looks like 2 or 3 meters. I am going to try and get there around 1pm or so…2pm maybe… low tide is 5pm, it should be getting dark by around 6:30pm or so….. we should have a good 3 or 4 hours to ride……

commenter

I’m 75% in for Saturday. Waiting to hear back about some scheduling, but I’m in if it’s clear.

I have a 2m PKD Brooza and a 3.5m Rage…plus NPWs in tiny to big… Haven’t had a chance to use NPWs on the beach… Anyone besides Glenn have any experience with them on sand?

commenter

So, LBJ, are we doing speed race or what? Chicken!

commenter

I’ll be camping in Lewes. Might have to make the haul out there… specially if I cant find anywhere decent to play with my buggy down there… I have a 2.4 NPW and the 3.5 jojo i can pull out… might be a bit much for the jojo, we’ll have to see… Could be fun. Chances are high that I will be there… :)

commenter

I’m stoked! Will be there around 12:00. I have Crossfire II 2.0 and 3.0 demos that are great fun in steady wind.

commenter

Brian,, it looks as if everyone is coming here Saturday…….you might have to change your plans…And about the speed race,,,, bring it on man!!!!!!!!!!you use your GPS and I will use my bike speedometer that I have set to my specifications….Of course you know that the land speed and ocean speed are completely different… Land speed suffers from what we call the Biometric Drag Factor, also know as BDF. What this means is that any speed you come up with can only be counted as half the speed of my vehicle. Lending to the fact that the ocean temperture and air temperture divided by the power of two will equal same as the buggy speed, therefore my speed will be greater than whatever you come up with. Of course this only pretains to speed North of the equador. Bottom line::::::: I win………

commenter

Race didn’t even start and you already won??? How did that happen? This is why smart ones are called smart a$$……

You sure aren’t making my life easier. Every 30 min, I change my mine on Saturday schedule.

Kiteboarding: cold water, wet :(
vs.
Buggying: good friends, speed, and DRY

what to do, what to do…

commenter

I would say come to North Wildwood..but keep an eye on the weather… my report is saying rain in there somewhere but we know that does not mean much,, based on past history. Wind is looking real good… fast,, and direction is good,,, tide is good,

commenter

Brian, 3 letters: WWB

See you there.

commenter

Hmm~ Lewes, it is. It will be cold :(

LBJ, I will carry my GPS. Hope it’s water proof :)

commenter

Have a good time at Lewes, Brian.
We’ll miss ya.

Joe, see what you can do about keepin’ the rain away, eh? I’ll be at WWB twixt 8 and 9am.

See yas there.

commenter

Howdy all,
I am working on Saturday morning and plan to hit the road at lunchtime. I should get to the beach with 2-3 hours to play before sundown.

commenter

Hey Luke,,

You do realize that low tide is about 5pm right? I am planning on getting to the beach around 12 or 1 at the latest,, just didn’t want you to think no one was coming if your there by 9am…. I am not sure, some may be there that early which is fine.. There should be enough dry sand to still ride that early. I will bring the hot pretzels again………. see yas there.

commenter

Hey Joe,
Yeah I figured I’d be pretty early for low-tide, but that’s okay…. I’d rather be sitting at the beach then in traffic on the GWbridge.
Thanks for the heads up though.

See you there.

commenter

pretzels…… Urrr~ Why didn’t you mention that earlier? I am committed to kiteboarding tomorrow. You can, however, give some extra to Michael. I am meeting him on Saturday night.

commenter

You got it…. they may however have more salt on them then when they arrived on the beach.

commenter

Brian!?!?!? May the wind blow you to WWB from Dewe!!, we will miss you and you will miss buggying, but hopefully kiteboarding will make you forget all that!

Luke, I was planning to get there around 11, but now I know you’ll be there early, I might just come around 9….

Don, I couldn’t find the network card, make sure to have a room where the wifi works.

See you!

commenter

Jesse: No Problem
Dillon: Great to hear you will be comming, I know how you can work out those last couple feet of low tide.
Joe: I’m getting hooked on those pretzels and I haven’t even done the hot ones yet.
Luke: Are you bringing your Bro?
Brian: You Lewes!

commenter

i guess ill see everyone there. my normal 12-1 oclock. good thing the tide is on my time table.

commenter

water proof my a$$. My GPS got soaked in water and now it doesn’t power up :(

It worked initially though. Until it broke, my record speed was 35.5 mph. I think I later hit 95 mph but with my GPS broken, I cannot confirm that. So, what’s yours, LBJ?

Hope everybody had good time today. Wind was awesome. Water was warmer than air. Great day indeed.

commenter

You B….. well this is how it went down. I hit offical speed of 35.6mph and later believe I hit 96mph. Now…. did you really have a good time… and was the weather that good? We did have a really good time… The wind however was too freaking fast….and the direction was not that good,,, it was NNE as they predicted and for once thier forecast was correct…we needed more NE to really travel… but it was a good day,, we hung out and talked,,,and the best was watching Don getting dragged down the beach,,, not once but four times…on his butt, on his stomach, on his back….but he kept on riding…. we tried out the blokart, thanks to Jesse,, that was cool. we did get in some riding time, some better than others but the wind was unforgiving.. Over all good day, fun….So I guess you win…..we need to plan another day,,,

commenter

Brian !, you lost!, no wind direction or speed record beats Joe’s warm pretzels…. we all won, any body has Don dragging over the beach on tape??

commenter

I dried my GPS and it came back up :) Here it is: 36.3mph!!! Booya!

http://i36.tinypic.com/o8vrkn.jpg

But it won’t bring LBJ’s warm pretzels back…

commenter

Couldnt make it back out sunday, but saturday was a lot of fun. Might need to find a small kite to add to my quiver for days like that… Wow that wind was howling. Havent checked the camera for pics yet. Not sure what the wife got. Lets see what happens next week!

commenter

Tides for next weekend:
Saturday:
Low- .26 1123 (am)
High- 4.66 1740 (5pm)
Sunday:
Low- 0.11 1221 (noon)
High- 4.67 1828 (6pm)

Now the question remaining is… Wind?

commenter

I was using Dons vid camera filming some of his powerslides when he decided to show me how to body drag across the beach, only i had stoped filming and started running to help. Didnt know Don wanted the whole drag on tape!!! Ill remember that for next time.

commenter

That wind was outta control. I think Don’s anemometer showed highest wind speed was 36mph? I had a nice wind-burn-tan when I got home :)
Not much buggyin’, but I had a good time hanging out with everyone, and meeting some for the first time. Nick and I spent a good little while untying some wind-spawned knots in a lineset or two…and I think I almost entered a “no-mind” state during that..but not quite. Maybe next time :)
Joe, those pretzels were friggin’ awesome.

Snobdr… First time I saw your nickname I read it “Snob Dr”, and thought you were a plastic surgeon or lipo specialist or something like that. Someone pronounced it “snowboarder” and I understand now. I’m slow.

Missed ya there, Brian. If ya kitesurf much farther into this season I’ll assume you’re half seal.

commenter

Thats funny…I thought the same thing: Snob Dr.

Good seeing everyone again, maybe next time we’ll all have kites under 2m.

I’m thinking about Warminster this Wednesday. Anyone game?

commenter

Snob Dr. I’ve never seen it that way, but I like it, Snob Dr. it will be from now on ;)

Warminster Wednesday?? I have to work, won’t be able to make it.

Joe (Dillon) can you post a Google map link from that place on here??

commenter

Jesse – here is the link

Access to the Warminster Community Park is via Street Road and Johnsville Blvd – This is just SW of the center of the google map. The park drive is the first right turn and terminates at a parking lot on the West end of the old airstrip.

Anybody else? It looks like middle teens from the NNW until mid-late afternoon. Good direction for this location.

commenter

Wish I could, sorry man. Work and all that. Plus travel time from DC would be…. well, you get the picture… heh

commenter

Hey Dillon,

thanks for the invite but I have to work. Is that airstrip closed down? And Jesse, you got me hooked on the Blokart. I have been checking out websites and such and vids…. get in touch with I would like to see what kind of info you can get for me on the karts… I am feeling that compulsion to purchase one……

commenter

l o l
That kart was crazy.

commenter

LBJ-I’ve been doing the same. Sorry Don.

I still prefer the buggy, but the Blokart kicks some serious tail.

commenter

Re: Warminster.
The site was closed down some time ago and the property was made Into the Warminster Community Park. Mostly people walking or riding bikes. The strip is super fast and there is plenty of grassy space to play. The strip has some concrete blocks in a few places to prevent misuse but they are easy to negotiate in the buggy.

commenter

dillon, I am in today. I’ve been working overnight and I am heading home soon. Will take a nap until noon or something and heading out to the field. See you there

commenter

Brian, we want your job!!! (although I had a good night of sleep, so may be not), Sorry guys, I am at work today…. but I’d love to hear feedback about Warminster….

Thanks Joe for sharing (the super long) link, I edited it and made a link from the words…

I am still trying to find this “dutch flip”video but it looks like it is gone….

Any way, hope the day was good at Warminster!!!

commenter

BloKarts are what retired (old)buggers do.
Here’s a short video from Saturday Oct. 11th.
