Post Christmas Ride?

December 23rd 2008 | Posted by ragden

Just wondering if anyone would be interested in hitting the beach this coming weekend. Wind direction doesnt look the greatest, and the weather report is currently saying 30% chance of rain, but winds on Friday are saying straight out of the East, turning south by Saturday. I have tentative plans for Friday that could fall through. Cant work that day, long story, so I’d totally be game for hitting the beach. Anyone else gonna be out there, or able to make it?

As it stands right now, there is a very good chance I will be driving out Friday morning with a friend and his wife. We’ll probably stay Friday night, and head home Saturday night.

Looking forward to seeing y’all there. :)

Hey Mike, They are actually calling for SE winds for Friday,,,,right around low tide time. However the winds are only listed right now as about 7mph a few more or less,,, that might be good enough for your 12 meter and I most of the time find that whatever the wind prediction is,,it is some times more…Saturday looks even better,,,winds SSW and then SW at about 15mph I think it said,,,with slight chance of rain in the morning,,,temps around 55 degrees also which is good. So I may give it a shot….let me know if you guys are coming down,,,if the winds are SE it is better to go to the Crest beach,,,down by the fishing pier,,,the SSW winds for Saturday would be North Beach in North Wildwood. Hey brian,,, what is your call on these condtions? It would be great if you could get down here but even if you don’t,,,what do you think about the conditions? Any input ObeWonKanoki (Don)?

Oh snap. I’m so going to be there. We are leaving early Friday morning, and will hopefully be on the beach before noon. We will be staying the night, probably in the Montago Bay Hotel. I will be bringing the wife, and a couple friends. Looks like it will be a blast. I guess we’ll look for you by the pier. What is the best way to get down there? I know how to get to North beach, and the apollo, but thats about it. Is there a specific turn, or street, I need to look for? Thanks! Looking forward to seeing you there!

gift? what gift? do I get one too? is it SE wind?

I am headed to Key West tomorrow and kite on the way. Wind is not that much, only 15mph SE. I guess I can use 15M kite :)

Hey Mike, Crocus road is where the fishing pier is. If you come into town by way of Route 47 that will bring you right into wildwood and you would then go toward beach and turn right on Atlantic Ave and go about 7 blocks or so..you will see a recreation area right next to the beach and you can park there,,pier is there. And if you go to the hotel first then just head south on Atlantic Ave I think crocus road is about the 6000 block or so you can also get a street map from the hotel. The hotel is located at the 1800 block.. I will call you when I am headed down to the beach. I should be going down around noon or so…. low tide is scheduled for about 2pm.

Brian yes it is SE wind……you should be coming down here,,,especially for Saturday.

Hello – and happy holidays! I’ve been looking for more info on land sailing and kite buggies – will anyone be on the sidelines long enough to show me the ropes (sorry – pun fully intended)in Wildwood tomorrow?

commenter

Hey guys looks like I’ll be cutting fire wood this weekend.
Wildwood weather is too iffy for me.
Brain, That’s a hard choice, KW or Crest Beach. I think I’d go with Key West.
Makes me feel warm and happy just talking about it.
I lived on my 30′ sailboat part time for a couple years in the Keys. Big Fun !!
You will find your Christmas gift when you return from the good life in the South.
Hope you all have Fun wherever you Fly.

Unfortunately, there was no wind while I was at Wildwood. It looks like it is supposed to pick up nicely for Sunday, but we couldnt warrant staying another night. Oh well, I guess we’ll just have to time the next one a little better … :)

Gonna do some flying in DC tomorrow. Found a nice park right near where a buddy of mine lives. Big open fields, no fences, might be a lot of fun… We’ll have to see how it goes.

Thanks for the help in trying to make this weekend work out. :)

Well anyway,,, I went out yesterday (Saturday) to North Beach and got in about 2 hours of good landboarding,,,I was using the 5 meter beamer, the wind direction was SSE so I was able to get a half way good ride, for me still on the learning curve it was good,, the wind actually got alittle too strong for the 5 meter after awhile and I ate some sand, it was then that I decided that it was time to pack it up. It was good. The wind today is SW which will be good for North Beach again and the speed is set to be around 22mph which will most likely mean about 25 mph there with temps in the 60s,,,I am taking out the blokart,, it should be a “kick Ass” day. I will let you know…

commenter

Well,,, I went down there. The wind started off pretty good,,, wasn’t real fast but good. I had about 2 hours of ok rides, then the wind died off. Still worth going down for me anyway. I need more speed> I am working on a camera rig for the blowkart. have ideas in mind.

As Don said, you are a LBJ!!…

It would be cool if you can mount the camera somewhere on the mast, not sure though what would happen if you flip it :)
