Buggy Spots, News from Kiterplace

Don – Ivanpah – Primm NV.

March 21st 2009 | Posted by Don

Dudes,
Not to make you envious but I’m at a place where the wind direction is always good.
Here on Ivanpah Dry Lake Bed all it takes is a little wind and you can cruise for miles.
Just got back from Pismo Beach in CA. It’s the only beach in CA that you can drive on and camp.
Beautiful place to hang out except Kite Buggying and BloKarting are not allowed, Can’t have it all.
I felt the need to Buggy so I only stayed 3 days. Now I’m back in Primm for 20 days to get my Buggy and BloKart Fix.
The Landsailers have a big event this coming week followed by 5 days of the CA BloKart Club and the the NABX.
BTW Blokarts has a factory authorised sale going on to celabrate Ivanpah Race Week. It’s a rare oppertunity to save 10% on all BloKart products. As an added savings I (LandsailerShop.com) pay shipping for NJ Buggy Club members. Sale ends April 2nd.
In the next couple weeks I will try to keep you all update on life in Buggy Paradise now that I have constant internet access.
Is this Paradise or what?
Here’s a photo of the view out my motel window at Buffalo Bill’s. Ivanpah is in the background.
Pleasant Breezes,
Don

Dude. I’ll be there soon. Not soon enough, but soon.
Me & Lynz should be on the playa on wed the 1st by mid afternoon. We find you. Good times.

Give me a call if you find a minute.
Buggy, er BloKart, on!

You know, I buggied at Pismo beach once before they banned it. Fun time. Shame that we can’t do that any more.

I’ve been thinking about it and I think we (NJBuggClub) should make a buggy trip to one of Dry Lakes in West Coast. Maybe this fall or next spring, making it weekend + one or two days.

I know someone in LA. We can ship our buggies, kites and gear to that place. El Mirage, dry lake is 2 hour from LA and we can camp there. Ride a couple of days and come back home.

Who’s with me?

Sounds like fun. I will need more details though.

looks great… I would go.. only one problem seems to be the transportation of all our stuff..

but I’m with you Brian..

wow, there are more interest than I thought.

Yes, transportation is the problem and that’s why it’s hard for us to make it to west coast including NABX.

Jen’s aunt is living in LA, which is 2 hours from El Mirage dry lake. My plan is to ship everything via UPS or Fedex ground to her place. My Libre buggy costs about $80 one way. We fly to LA with minimal baggage. Pick up a rental mini van, pick up our buggy at her place then head to El Mirage. Camp down there over the weekend. We ship everything back to home before LA departure.

I was thinking about next Spring but if you guys are interested, maybe we should do it this fall. There is a “Buggy Fall Thang” in El Mirage. It’s not an event but just a bunch of guys get together twice a year (Spring and Fall) at El Mirage and ride.

Things to remember.

1. You will need small fixed bridle kites. No big depower kites. (maybe small depower kites like 4 or 6M)
2. You will need small tires. No bigfoot. You will likely to wear them out at the end of the trip.
3. You will need a buggy. Surface is very hard and you will go really fast. Land board will experience speed wobble —> dangerous.

It will be a weekend trip + one more day (either Friday or Monday) so if any of you are serious about it, let me know. Either this Fall or next Spring.

I’m seriously interested. Though I’ll need to pick up a small fixed-bridle kite, or that 6m Outlaw I keep thinking about.. (heh). Just point me in the direction of where to go to get tires. I know there are a couple of guys we can get stuff from.

Depending on my financial situation, the hold up for me would be plane tickets. If we can get a good deal on those, then I’m set. :D

You don’t want to use expensive kites like Outlaw on the desert. The surface is like a sand paper. If not being careful, it will make a hole in your kite in one slide.

All my Flysurfer kites will stay home. My biggest kite will be 5M Yakuza.

commenter

Ah, right. Sandpaper + kite = bad.
I definitely bring my two Beamers then, question is, would the 3m be small enough, or do I need to pick up something smaller before we leave? I know its a good ways off, but I can at least think about it so I can propose it to the wife enough in advance that she doesnt flip out on me.

Are you thinking a 2m Beamer, or a 1.8 Rage? I have the 3.5m Jojo RM+, but that might be a bit much in stronger winds.

commenter

My quiver will be 1.8M 2.2M 3.5M 5M. I think I used 4.9M and 2.5M most during NABX. Smaller size is definitely good to have.

I could be wrong, but thats just one day’s prediction… right?
