Good Times

Dewey Sat/Sun

July 27th 2009 | Posted by Brian

Where should I start. Two days @ Dewey and camping Saturday night (for free). Not bad.

Wind was rought both days. Most people went to ocean side to show off their skills to becah goers while we stayed at bay side. Very gusty condition + killer jellyfish. I got stung once and while nobody was watching I was crying.

Later Saturday afternoon, Snobdr joined. I was hestating to go out and he asked why. I said I was tired and a windsurfer who was listening our conversation stepped in and said “he is just afraid of jellyfish.” (ye, I was complaining about jellyfish sting all morning and I guess it was so obvious that I am scared of them). And Snobdr added “you don’t like cold water either, do you?” And I said “I am scared of deep water too, you know? So, what the heck am I doing in water???……………. I can’t wait to snowkite this winter.

Late afternoon, Ragden and his friend showed up. Wind was light so I was practicing jump and blind land. Couldn’t do it and my new coach, Snobdr told me what to do and I “almost” landed it. Then I got tired.

Four of us (Snobdr, Ragden, his friend and me) had a nice dinner and Snobdr went home and we headed to camp site. When we got to camp site, it was around 11pm and of course, nobody was at the office so we just looked for an empty site and set up tents.

Next morning, we left early (due to early wind forecast) and office was still closed = free camping :)

Sunday wind wasn’t as good as it was forecasted. I would say worst then Saturday (ye, Snobdr, you didn’t miss anything). For a couple of hours, we (kiters) had to wait while windsurfers were out there having fun (it was off-shore wind).

And I did un-forgivable things in kiting community. I bravely asked one of the winsurfers if I can use her gear while she is taking a break. Surprising, she said no problem. (and I said if I break it, I will buy it – to be fair)

Oh boy! It was so much fun. I had to say (and forgive me, other kiters), it was the most fun part in two day kiting.

Sunday session ended with a surprising visit from Tibi. He showed up at Dewey with his family not knowing we were there. Lucky him, kiteboarding instructor was there finshing his lesson so I introduced them to each other. Looks like he made his first major step into kiting.

It was kind of sad to leave Dewey Sunday afternoon because I had no home to go. Ye, I am homeless for now. I still have wet camping gear in my car along with kites, boards and everything. Bright side is if wind blows today, I can just take off :)

oh, there were a bunch of Asian guys (like 15 guys but no girls….) clamming and cooking at Dewey on Sunday. I tried to blend in to get some free lunch but soon, I realized that I got curly and highlighted hair. Mission failed.

Maybe it was a good thing because later someone told me that clams filter dirty water to clean water.

I dont know what you are crying about, Sunday was a lot of fun. I finally figured out how to ride upwind on the water. Was great. Yeah, we had to wait around for the wind to pick up, but it was a beautiful day to be on the beach.

Saturday wasnt exactly a loss either. I got a chance to ride Brians P4 12m on the water with my new giant board, and I pulled off an accidental 5-6 foot boost. Landed it fine, and kept riding. Only downside is that since I hadnt figure out the whole upwind thing, I had a long walk back to the beach. Otherwise it was a total score this weekend.

Cant wait for next weekend (if there is wind). :)
