Good time, Tug Hill NY, Dec 13/14
December 15th, 2008 by Brian
Ryan, Michael and I drove to Tug Hill, NY on Friday night.
Saturday morning, there is no wind. Wind forecast showed no wind until 6 pm. So, we hit Dry Hill ski resort for snowboarding. Tiny little mountain but we had great time, especially me. It was my best snowboarding session ever!
At 5 pm, we met local Mike and had nice dinner. During dinner, we often looked outside to see if the full moon’s out. Greg (snobdr) joined us at the end of dinner. We came out to parking lot and BOOM! there was a full moon coming out of the cloud. I’ve never been more excited to see a full moon like that.
We all went to local field and that was bout 7 or 8 pm. Soon thick cloud came back covering the moon but surprisingly, we were able to see just fine on snow. We all went out and snowkited. That was the most amazing night ever! (ok, except first night with Jen) At around 11pm, we decided to pack up, preparing for another snowkiting day, Sunday.
Early start on Sunday. We woke up at 6:30 am. We went to the field again and we were the first group. Very strong wind, I would say more than 20 mph most of time. We went out with 6M and 8M kites. Sometimes, 8M was just too much, we took turns on my 6M. Some snow was blown away overnight and some spots were showing bare ice. Regardless, another great day on snow and ice. We packed up at around 1 pm and headed home.
Our next trip will be Jan 17th weekend. There is a HUGE lake right next to where we had dinner and once it’s frozen (it’s frozen now but not safe yet), we can pretty much ride in any wind direction. The best part is that the restaurant is also a hotel so we just stay there, eat there and ride there.
We all GOT TO go there, folks. Ryan and I will do “snowkite marathon” next time and Michael will join us by force. We will see who puts most miles on snow. Whoever wins, gets Ryan’s car. Nothing to lose folks, so, please join us next time.
