Good time, Tug Hill NY, Dec 13/14

December 15th, 2008 by Brian

Ryan, Michael and I drove to Tug Hill, NY on Friday night.

Saturday morning, there is no wind.  Wind forecast showed no wind until 6 pm.  So, we hit Dry Hill ski resort for snowboarding.  Tiny little mountain but we had great time, especially me.  It was my best snowboarding session ever!

At 5 pm, we met local Mike and had nice dinner.  During dinner, we often looked outside to see if the full moon’s out.  Greg (snobdr) joined us at the end of dinner.  We came out to parking lot and BOOM! there was a full moon coming out of the cloud.  I’ve never been more excited to see a full moon like that.

We all went to local field and that was bout 7 or 8 pm.  Soon thick cloud came back covering the moon but surprisingly, we were able to see just fine on snow.  We all went out and snowkited.  That was the most amazing night ever!  (ok, except first night with Jen)  At around 11pm, we decided to pack up, preparing for another snowkiting day, Sunday.

Early start on Sunday.  We woke up at 6:30 am.  We went to the field again and we were the first group.  Very strong wind, I would say more than 20 mph most of time.  We went out with 6M and 8M kites.  Sometimes, 8M was just too much, we took turns on my 6M.  Some snow was blown away overnight and some spots were showing bare ice.  Regardless, another great day on snow and ice.  We packed up at around 1 pm and headed home.

Our next trip will be Jan 17th weekend.  There is a HUGE lake right next to where we had dinner and once it’s frozen (it’s frozen now but not safe yet), we can pretty much ride in any wind direction.  The best part is that the restaurant is also a hotel so we just stay there, eat there and ride there.

We all GOT TO go there, folks.  Ryan and I will do “snowkite marathon” next time and Michael will join us by force.  We will see who puts most miles on snow.  Whoever wins, gets Ryan’s car.  Nothing to lose folks, so, please join us next time.

NJ Snowkite Club???

December 5th, 2008 by Brian

Michael and I were so jealous on LBJ & Jesse’s NJ Blokart Club that we decided to come up with our own “cooler” club, NJ Snowkite Club.  Tada!!!

As a matter of fact, we are heading upstate NY tonight for snowkiting.  There are some great snowkiting spots in Lowville, NY (AKA, Tug Hill).  Thanks to “lake effet snow,” they have tons of snow in the area and wind forest for this weekend looks good as well.  We will ride Saturday and Sunday and come back Sunday afternoon.

So, any of you jealous on LBJ and Jesse’s blokart are more than welcome to join us.  What the heck, even LBJ and Jesse can join us!

It’s our first snowkiting session this year so wish us luck!  And remember, if you are jealous of us, you always can come up with your own club such as “we are not cool enough to snowkite club”

So long, suckers!

Meeting, ThanksGiving Weekend

November 26th, 2008 by Brian

We need to recruit a weather man in our club.

It keeps changiing but so far: Saturday, no rain but West wind, not good.  There is a chance it could change to NW wind.  Sunday, I still see SE wind in some time frame but less than 10mph.  No worries, I will tow everybody with my 19M if I have to.

I am open for both Saturday and Sunday but it’s not like Spring or Fall time when we could just hang out at the beach under warm sun.  I want to be more careful choosing my day, relying more on wind forecast…

Meeting, ThanksGiving Day, Nov 27th

November 24th, 2008 by Brian

Low tide 1 pm, NW 15mph, 45 F.  Looks actually good.

Who else can come out?  This is “addition” to weekend gathering we’ve been discussing for a long time.

Edit: ThanksGiving day (Thursday) ride has been canceled.
